Sustainable undergarments have stumped me for quite some time. When it comes to chic, sustainable, non-toxic clothes, I finally feel like I have most of my bases covered with Olderbrother. But the discovery of quality brands surrounding the underbits has been a slower process. Since we don’t see them on our friends, and lingerie comes up less frequently in conversation than “where is your dress from,” I thought I’d take the opportunity to introduce you to Botanica Workshop.
I have a close friend that can only wear fully organic cotton panties or her vaginal pH gets thrown off. That’s a direct and beautiful conversation that come straight from your body, and shouts “CHANGE.” But what about what we don’t see, or hear? We all know it by now: our skin is the largest organ on our body and absorbs everything we put on it. So consideration for the materials we put on our most sensitive parts should be pondered? Yes. Especially with so many xenoestrogenic toxins in conventional fabrics (and dyes).
I was introduced to Botanica Workshop via a little shop in Silver Lake. When I had the opportunity to pick up and touch their pieces, I instantly fell for their dainty and feminine design. Then I learned that they source organic cotton (certified by the highest global standard – GOTS), domestic milled silk, and dyes that are either botanically/minerally derived or low impact sythetics (colors that are created by nature). Furthermore, this is also a local company that uses recycled supplies, and each garment is drafted, cut, and sewn by hand. Swoon.
It also doesn’t hurt that their new spring collection has a very vintage French feel about it. I’m so inspired (and grateful) for this “slow fashion” shift in modern apparel culture.
